Moneyline betting on Boxing Fight

Moneyline bets in heavyweight boxing or any other boxing match works on the same premise as all other moneyline bets. The odds are presented by numbers with + and – signs or as decimals. + signs represent underdogs while – signs represent favourites.

The odds in boxing are usually quite disparate. The bet on the favourite is usually not very profitable but is almost always a sure bet. This makes moneyline betting on boxing fights really risky whichever way you bet, even when you are right. For example, there is a match between Morgan Jones vs Anthony Fox coming up on Sunday. Say the odds are set as follows

Jones 1.30 vs Fox 3.60

A $10 bet on Jones would give Kiwi bettors a $13 payout if he won whereas betting on the underdog Fox for the same amount would result in a $36 payout. Betting on the underdog seems more profitable but upsets are not as common in boxing favourites almost always win.

Boxing Round Betting

Round betting is more exciting than moneyline betting when it comes to boxing. Punters have to predict in what round the winner will knock the other opponent out. This is exciting but also highly unpredictable especially where both fighters are evenly matched. Going back in history, in 1990 Mike Tyson had perfect 37-0 record with 33 knockouts when he himself was knocked out by a (seemingly) less formidable opponent James Buster Douglas. Odd/Even Round Betting – In boxing round betting you can also bet on whether the fightb will be won on an even odd number round.

Half Round Betting – you can bet on whether the entire boxing fight will end in the first six rounds or the second half.

Method of Victory

A fun bet to make in boxing tournaments is a method of victory bet. You are not betting on who will the fight or in what round the fight ends. Rather you are betting on how the fight ends. Bettors can bet on whether the fight ends via a knock out or based on points.

Fight Outcome – is somewhat a parlay bet because you bet on which fighter will win and if they are winning based on the actual physical fight or via points from the judges

Win between rounds 1-12 by KO/TKO/DQ – this bet wins when a boxer does not get up before the 10 count after a knockdown, or referee steps in to stop the fight or when there is a disqualification.

Win on Decision – A victory won through points from all the judges score cards after all schedule rounds of the fight where there were no KO or TKO

Win on Technical Decision – A victory through a Technical Decision similar to a Win on decision. The only difference is that the technical decision would have been brought about when a fighter can’t carry on due to an injury that isn’t caused in the fight. The fight is then decided on the judge’s scorecards at the time when the fight is stopped.

Total Rounds

Total Rounds betting is a wager on how many rounds a punter predicts a fight will go on. Odds for a standard Total rounds bet will look something like this:

O/U 10 rounds (-130/+105)

If you predict the fight will end at or before 10 rounds, your bet is U(Under) whereas If you think the fight will be longer than 10 rounds, your bet is O (Over). The numbers represent the odds of each bet. -130 = O where +105 = U, the U is the less likely outcome which also will payout more than the over -130 bet.

Potential Fights Betting

A potential fights bet is similar to what a futures bet is in other sports. Sports books often project that certain fights may take place between boxers at a specific date. Kiwis can bet on those fights that are yet to take place. If the said fights do not take place at all or they take place on a later date the wagers are voided and stakes refunded.
